How much does a new custom domain name cost?
You will receive 1 custom domain name for FREE for 1 year that your website will be connected to. After that year is up, it will cost you $20 to renew your domain name ownership annually.
Who will host my domain name?
Registering a domain through Squarespace gives your website a professional look and avoids the need to register a domain with a third-party provider. All Squarespace Domains are officially hosted by two registrars, Squarespace Domains LLC and Tucows, and managed through your Squarespace site.
Choosing a domain name:
When you are choosing a new domain name, think about keywords that match your site's purpose or brand. We recommend using a .com TLD when it's available, but you might also consider a TLD that matches your business or location, like .cruises or .london.
Squarespace Domains can have between 3 and 63 characters. Keep in mind that shorter domain names are easier to remember.
Domains can only have letters, numbers, and hyphens. You can't add symbols like $ or *.
Domains with special characters (such as ü, é, or ñ) may not display properly on all browsers.
What if I already have a domain?
If you own a domain name purchased through another provider (like GoDaddy or 1&1), you can transfer it to Squarespace and manage it through your site. If you can't transfer your domain, you can connect it instead by changing your DNS settings. Your website designer will take care of this for you, just make sure to fill out the domain section of the “Website Design Questionnaire” included in your welcome packet.
Buying additional domain names:
You can register additional domain names on any Squarespace plan. Each domain name is $20 to $70 per year. Pricing depends on the domain's TLD. As long as you have a credit card on file, you can purchase domain name(s) from Squarespace. Your website designer can take care of this for
you if you note all domain names you would like to buy on the “Website Design Questionnaire”. If any of the domains that you have provided are not available you will be notified.
Domains may be subject to state and local sales taxes. If your domain is subject to tax, you’ll see it added at checkout.
Full DNS Control, WHOIS Privacy, and SSL
All Squarespace Domains come with full DNS control. You can map your domain wherever you want or transfer it to a different provider if needed in the future.
You can move domains between Squarespace sites in the same account.
We provide free WHOIS privacy to protect your personal information. With most registrars, domain privacy is a paid service that is added on to your subscription. With Squarespace, domain privacy is included.
All Squarespace Domains that point to a Squarespace site automatically generate a free SSL certificate to ensure your visitors can access your site securely.
